Lakota Nation Scholarship

Application Period: October 1, 2024 – February 1, 2025

 

Purpose: Established in 2021, this scholarship supports Native American students pursuing post-secondary education opportunities. It is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated leadership and commitment in their community, exceptional character, and leadership in service, academics, and community involvement.

 

Eligibility:

·         Member of a Native American tribe

·         Accepted and/or pursuing a degree as a full-time student at a public or private, US-based accredited institution of higher education

·         Must attend or be a graduate from a school that participates in the Lakota Nation Invitational OR be a Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe Member

 

Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed and recipients selected based on the established criteria. All qualified applicants will be considered. Complete application criteria, questions, and appropriate paperwork are required. Specific examples of activities and achievements are especially helpful to the selection committee.

 

Amount: Each scholarship awarded will be $2,500.

 

Renewal Process: This scholarship is not renewable. Native American members must reapply yearly.

 

Application Requirements:

·         Resume

·         Proof of Tribal enrollment

·         Current Unofficial Transcript (GPA must be 2.0 or higher)

·         College Acceptance Letter (for high school students) OR Enrollment Letter (for college students)

·         Essay (500-1,000 words) about yourself, your background, and how you demonstrate community service, scholarship, humble leadership, and/or impact

·         1 character recommendation (a link will be sent to the recommender upon application submission)
